Final Piece of the Puzzle

Mylife could quite possibly be called a tale of two halves. The first part walking a Christian life, thesecond part a wild life. But for thelast two years I have been in limbo, and I would say that it has been out ofchoice due to a previous build up of disastrous situations. You see even though I had gone off to live awild life and dramatic life, I had never stopped believing in God, but I hadstopped believing in myself. These twoyears have changed everything, my life will never be the same. Most dramatically the final piece of thepuzzle fell into place when I bought and read the complete prophecies ofNostradamus.

Itwasn't necessarily the prophecies which I read that effected me, although theywere interesting, it was more about the preface of the book which is made up ofletters that Nostradamus had written to his family and others. The letters themselves could actually becalled quite cryptic, and there is a huge depth of knowledge behind thewords. But as I read it, suddenly all mylife experiences started to make sense. I am sure others may have read the same words and been inspired, butthis was more than inspiration, something was happening to me on a spirituallevel.

Thingschanged for me, sure, spiritually I have always been a little different. But now it felt like my knowledge wascomplete, the puzzle of understanding who I am was complete. It was then that I understood that I had beendestined to write a Book of Prophecies, and even though the book is nowfinished, I still struggle to come to terms with it. Mainly because in my own life I stand in astrange place; I have a Christian family and many non-Christian friends, yethere I am with my Book of Prophecies that may never be fully accepted or understoodby either of the groups. Don't get mewrong, they gladly support me, but they may never understand it.

About the Author:

Cesar has a very experienced background in the spiritual world.He was brought up in a Christian family, but branched out from that base as hegot older, seeking answers about the world around him, and the spiritual worldaround him. In his mid-twenties dramatic events occurred in his lifewhich challenged his very existence, but he learned from these experienced andmost of learned that how that life is not just in our own hands. Kiki: What is your favorite genre to read in, and what is itabout that genre that attracts you to it?

ANDY: By far my favorite genre is spythrillers. I enjoy these types ofthriller because they require a complex plot and characters whose motives areoften in question. Spy thrillers arealso good brain teasers and I enjoy plot twists and surprises.

Kiki: What is your favorite author to read in that genre, andwhy? Also, please tell me a little about the best book by that author you haveread.

ANDY:John Le Carre is the only spy thriller writer that I read. I’ve been captivated by his story telling formy entire adult life. His story plottingis the very, very best. My favorite ofhis novels is A Perfect Spy,which is a rich story with complicated characters. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve readit.

Kiki: Do you have a FavoriteBook of All Time? Of course, please tell us what about that book makes ityour favorite.

ANDY: MyFavorite Book of All Time is Stephen King’s TheStand. I like the complexity andlength of this post-apocalyptic tale and love the way King laid out a saga thatpitted good against bad in a final showdown.

Kiki: What is the best book you read last month, and would yourecommend it to a friend?

ANDY: DougDorow’s thriller – The Ninth District. Would very highly recommend it to anyone thatenjoys a well plotted thriller.

Kiki: What are your reading habits like? For example, how many booksdo you read on average in a week, what format do you prefer to read in, whattime of day do you read, and what setting is ideal for you to get lost in thatbook?

ANDY: Myreading habits are sporadic. I gothrough phases and currently I have been reading more than I have in the lastthree years. I enjoy softcover books(although, I have been digging the kindle I just received for Christmas) My favorite reading setting is the back deckof my home, in the Fall, with a light breeze and an Amstel Light.

Kiki: How do you become inspired to write?

ANDY: Ibecame inspired to write my first novel due to events that unfolded in my lifeas an owner of a small business in the late 1990’s. My staff suspected that one of our clientswas a drug smuggler and this person’s murder some time later seemed to confirmthis suspicion. From this sequence ofevents, my overactive imagination develop the plot points that became SHADES OFGRAY.

Kiki: What part of the story do you think is your strength towrite?

ANDY: Mystrongest writing came out during the construction of the twisty ending thatdeveloped during the writing of the novel. I surprised myself in the development of the events that transpired atthe end and how well they circled back to the other elements of the story.

I've just finished writing my debut novel, The Public Pretender. Whew! What a long and winding journey, but I likegetting lost on the highways in the world of my imagination. A few times, I gotoff on the wrong exits--or, should I say differentexits because it’s my imagination and nothing in there is wrong per se, justweird. I started writing it four years ago, and I’m glad I made it to the end.

Because I was mad about things I noticed in the juvenile justicesystem, I began writing a guide to educate more families in my community. As I wrote, a creative spring erupted in mymind, and I couldn’t force myself to stay within the rigid lines of legalexposition. It seemed fitting because Ialways found myself using analogies, examples and stories to explain to kidsranging in age from ten to eighteen what was happening to them in court.

The story is about a fiery criminal defense attorney, MaevenDayne, who specializes in representing juvenile defendants. When it comes to her job, she’s driven andpassionate. When it comes to her family,she’s devoted, but her job is demanding and distracting. She pleases her husband when shedecides to quit her job to spend more time with the family. But, on Maeven’slast day at work in the courtroom, a juvenile probation officer she despisesdrags a weeping young girl before an irritated judge for an unscheduled hearingwhile Maeven is packing up her things to leave. She is walking out of the courtroom, fighting her urge to turn around when shehears the probation officer had the girl incarcerated for weeks withoutnotifying her parents or arranging for representation. Maeven can’t resist the girl’s pitiful pleasfor help and intervenes.

She discovers people are profiting from imprisoning innocentkids. A whistleblower ends up dead, but he’s left clues. When heroldest son is beaten, arrested and detained on false charges, her husbandreceives a message proposing an offer: Maeven must quit the girl’s case, orthey lose their son. The problem? Canshe sacrifice one for the other?

My book buddy and I had such different views about Maeven. We debated her methods, her motivations andhow she treated friends and family. Myfriends had differing views too. Weagreed that we were fascinated by her former client’s shady character, foundher youngest son’s snarky humor terribly funny, and we really loved the way herhusband loves. I cried over her oldestson’s scenes. Yes, I cry and laugh at passages in my own book; my husbandthinks that’s weird. Because of the ongoing debate, I’m not done with Maeven. She’ll live on for one more book. She’ll have to wait until I’m finishedwriting a fantasy novel with my sons, but I’ve already have the plot for herworked out and can’t wait to get back to her.

I'm a wife and a mother who loves to tell stories. I wasborn and raised in Georgia, but now I live in Central Pennsylvania. I'm a staff attorney in a law school clinicalprogram, and I'm an adjunct law professor who teaches juvenile justice andlegal writing. I used to be a public defender specializing in representingchildren, and for the most part, loved the work. I thrived on the heat of courtroombattle, but the highs are very high and the lows are very low and I burned out.Now, I spend time grading papers, supervising law students as they representindigent clients in court and reading with my sister in our long distance bookclub.

Beauty has been said to be inthe ‘eye’ of the beholder and yet in truth, real beauty comes from the sourceof all things. This is God, the Creator, the Great White Spirit or whichevername or form an individual agrees within himself what pure love is.

Through the education of yourSoul (in this lifetime) you have come such a long way my Son, and yet you havenot been anywhere else in time or space other than the moment that existswithin each second, minute, hour, day, week or year.

There is no separation fromtruth and the light. There can be no doubt that for all your experiences, thehappiest of all is within the ‘stillness’ and the bliss of love itself. So, weask those who have picked up this new (and your third) book: where is thistruth, peace and tranquility? It is in the greatest power, the brightest light,the most beautiful sight and sound and it is in you, your essence, and the verycore of your existence!

Deep within your Soul andheart is the love you all seek and cherish so dearly. You do not need to travelover mountains or hide away in forests to find the answers to all things. Godis everything and everything is God. As such, he dwells as the fountain of joy,cascading tears of love and peace to all who come to bathe in him.

I am I: The ‘In-Dweller’ ofyour Heart is to be the title of this latest work David. You will hear, speak,and confide in God so that many more may both comprehend and understand.Information and dictation of words will flow in a similar manner you have beenaccustomed to.

Others may consider that you(or we) are mad, whilst others might decree that you are indeed privileged.Your faith, hope and character have all helped in being where you are today.Listen to your heart in all that you do, for it is where you will always hearwhat the truth ‘is’.

God knows what is to bewritten and when, for the benefit of society and humanity. All words and truthare simple and will be simply put. Doctrines and beliefs of many religions canoften be complex but ‘love and truth’ is not and Spiritual education isn’teither.

Sometimes you will be amazedat what is given for you to write. Some passages will make you cry with tearsof peace and love. Others will make you feel that deep inside your heart there is light,glowing so brightly that people cannot fail to see and feel what is also within‘themselves’.

David, it is so good toreconnect your pen with our hearts. Know that your life is our life, and thosethoughts, wishes and your dreams are felt by us too. Your earthbound time mayseem to have passed by, but we have always been close, waiting patiently foryou. We love you. We love you all.

Remember, the stars andplanets above and beyond where we physically reside may seem an eternity away,but the mind’s perception only deceives and tries to suggest this. Space, theUniverse and time itself are but a minute fragment, not even the size of anatom on the Lord’s foot. People say to others: ‘to think outside the box’, butwe state that you must realize there is no ‘box’, so just feel and know thetruth within.

May those who inquire (theaspirant or devotee) and the disciples of different races, religions and all‘beings; know that we are but one family, one Light and of one love. Connectedare we all by the true source of illumination and power, the one God and onetruth, the ‘In-Dweller’ of all our hearts.

So start to collate thewritten words for this new book. You will know when, for you will feel the tugof the heart. Just be still and be you. Live, breath, know and feel it. God’slove and words will flow, so all you need to do is to be ready.

GRIEF,‘HEART-ACHE’ AND THEN JOY

Welcome. As you write the title of this passage,you may immediately think that there is a particular sequence of events thatoccurs. Obviously, from past experiences, you know that this is not always thecase but true joy is forever and it is forever within you too.

Nothing,no one, or any ‘being’ needs to feel pain and anguish before they know joy,however it is the very nature of your mind and way of living that trick you tobelieve that this is so.

Ihave watched and felt your emotional rollercoaster of recent days. Jasper, yourbeloved cat who had been suffering from old age and illness would never havelived, even to recent times, without Caroline’s (and your) love washing overhim during years of togetherness.

Asyour tears flowed and your hearts ached in distress as he slipped away, Angelsand guardians who watch over all animals and creatures escorted and carried himto peace and contentment within my light that radiates for all beings. Knowthat he is amongst his friends and with those on the ethereal planes ofvibration who know you both. They are caring for him, so he is fine and freefrom pain and anguish. He will be waiting for you when you yourselves are readyto Ascend and cross into your permanent state.

‘Pud’,as you often called him, lived on the earth plane until he was meant to leave.In the time when you’re grieving is most apparent, your mind tricks you. Allpeople who feel that they lose their loved one - a relative, a friend, or pet -feel this trickery.

Bynow you have the experience to deal with such things as the knowledge hasturned to wisdom. The love, light and acceptance of these events should nowallow you to be unshaken by this or other difficult circumstances. Some mayfeel that it is harsh of me to suggest that you need to overcome burdens suchas these more easily, but this is what I am now asking you to do.

Iwill never ever, ever ask you to abandon your feelings of oneness and love foranother person, being, or a beloved pet. What you should continually strive toachieve is the release of your attachment. These are not the same thing. Howcan the devotee, aspirant, disciple, or the person looking for answers defineit simply and clearly? The key is within yourselves and all it takes isrecognition and remembering who and what you are, as we have described manytimes before.

Itcan be very easy to be deceived at times of stress and struggle, but these areprecisely the events and occasions when your inner strength needs to prevailand let go of negativity. Accept that events are as they should be in terms ofkarma and right action. The struggle is to overcome feeling separate. One feelsand thinks that they are divided. This is my husband, my wife, my child, or mypet. In truth they are not, for they are all you and me. All are ‘one’.

Somefeel that their ‘God’ presides over them or lives in a particular place, orthey may gaze upon a statue or alter which depicts in their eyes who or what Iam. As stated, there is no separation so then I am all things and all thingsare me. I am the flower that is wilting and I am the next flower that blooms. Iam the tree with no leaves and I am the tree whose blossom flies in the wind. Iam the desert and the seas and I am the above and below.

Assuch, no one or ‘nothing’ can be alone, even in your darkest hour or thehappiest moment of your life. So, if you now understand this and an event thatyou call ‘death’ occurs close to you, by concluding that the attachment isfalse, then there is no loss. If there is no loss then there is no fear. Nofear means that there is no anguish or grief. Without grief you will not shedtears of pain, but rather tears of joy and celebration of a life that hasenriched you and all those who come to know them.

Thisconnection cannot be erased. Memory or even time can fade what was once sostrong, but the love that is contained within two hearts cannot be destroyed byanyone or anything. Fire, water, earth or sky cannot burn, erode, bury, orelevate away. As the love was held by both hearts it cannot be extinguished,then there is no need to cry, no matter what the circumstances and events haveconspired and bought to bear.

Allegos must be diluted, so false thoughts cannot interfere with the process oftruth. Yes, the truth is that the heart and Soul cannot ‘perish’ by anyman-made event. People sometimes conclude that acts of violence by so calledmadmen mean that they have no heart and Soul. Know that even a ‘madman’ (aperception made on earth) loves something or someone. I explain this because itis often so difficult for you to comprehend or explain why and how a humanbeing could inflict pain or harm upon another.

Causesand triggers, such as pride, hate, anger, and jealousy burn deep within thepsyche. They lurk and hide within the shadows and recesses of the mind andbody, looking for ways to express themselves. Instead, love and compassion,kindness and forgiveness need to grow within the heart. These seeds of truthcan multiply and expand, touching and reaching far beyond boundaries ofimagined walls; physically, mentally and emotionally. So, live with dignity andwith values that have enabled you to be called a human being.

Youare all so special, so strive to do and be the best person that you can be. Anyjob or activities that you engage in are all by-products and these, ifundertaken in truth and love, are for the well-being of your fellow-man and forsociety.

Allacts of kindness reverberate like the chimes of a bell for they echo and expandupon waves of love and light. Your hearts do not need to bear hurt and fear andthey do not need to cry out for tears to fall in pain. Do not miss or despairwhen ‘ letting go’ of someone (or a pet), but continue to rejoice and singtheir name in praise, for having the wonderful opportunity and time you hadtogether on the plane of existence you currently reside upon. Please know thatas ‘one’ I shall be:

-Theboat that carries you across the ocean(s) of your emotions.

-Theland you walk upon holding you upright and true.

-Thewind that blows away dark clouds from your body, mind and Soul.

-Thespiritual ‘vision’ to reveal the light and the Sun to radiate warmth and lovein your heart.

-Thehand that lifts you up from the ground when you feel you can’t go on.

-Thelife giving ‘water’ that will quench your thirst for truth, knowledge and forwisdom.

-Thespark deep within that gives you everlasting life.

-Thecolours of the rainbow shining down upon your darkened days of false fear andtears.

Weare one forever. Please do not grieve. Erase the heartache and pain. Youare joy itself. Live it, breath it, know it and understand it. Love conquersall things that you can ever possibly imagine to fear. So do not, (for you neednot), as you are nearer than near to me. I love you all. Amen

About The Author:

I was born and raised and continue to live in sunny southern California. I'm married and have two wonderful teens. My love for writing began when I was just a kid though, I never really had any dreams or aspirations of doing it for a living. Then along came the age of eReaders and I saw an opportunity to get my writing out for the world to read without jumping through hoops and getting past the red tape of trying to get traditionally published. The Moreno Brothers series has literally changed my life. I now wake up to go to work a few yards from my bed.

Forever Mine is the first in the series and is currently still free on Amazon but I anticipate that changing real soon. Always Been Mine is the second in the series, then Sweet Sofie and recently released Romero is the fourth. Making You Mine is the fifth in the series and will be available tentatively this December 2011. I already have another series in mind that will immediately follow this one. (No I won't be taking any vacations from writing!) I will have more info sneak and peeks of that series which will be out in 2012. But I have so many other stories screaming to be told I only wish I could write faster!

My Review of “Our Mother’s Recipes, Carrying on a Jewish Tradition” by Dorene Sager and Armin Feldman

Let me start by saying that I very excitedly requested to review this cookbook. Being married to a Jewish man with no family to teach me how to cook I gobble up books like this all the time. And, now, having went through the book, I am trilled to have it. I was happy with it from the dedication on. The dedication was a wonderful testament to the authors’ parents, real heartfelt words. With the pictures of the original recipes and little stories before most of the recipes I felt like I was finally getting recipes from a friend J

My review is going to be a bit different. I went through the recipes one by one to find some to try in my own home this Hanukkah. I must admit I had trouble choosing, but finally settled on stuffed mushrooms, tzimmes, salmon and fruit dessert.

I loved the simple cooking steps and processes.

I also appreciated the wholesome ingredients like sweet potatoes, carrots, plums and apricots, paired with more elegant touches of sweet wine and butter and honey.

The first night of Hanukkah both our teenage sons had other things going on, so my husband and I both got to sit down to a nice quiet meal. It was like a date night. And thus, I got to hear the string of praise from my husband’s lips as he ate...

The stuffed mushrooms got a string of “Oh Wow!'s”

The salmon, the true test since I have never made a salmon my husband likes, was “Oh Man, this is awesome. I didn’t know salmon could taste like this.” High praise there!

And he thought the tzimmes a perfect compliment to the salmon.

He couldn’t stop praising the meal actually and said it beat out my spaghetti and meatballs…hmmm, not sure how I feel about that! LOL

He also said if he had gone to a restaurant and this is what he’d gotten he would have thought it well worth the money. Oh, and for dessert, the fruit compote over ice cream was just fantastic. And if I forgot the wine and butter sauce, I could pretend I was eating healthy. LOL

I loved this cookbook and would highly recommend it from the personal feel to the wonderful recipes :)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer “Amends,” the 1998 Christmas episode

In this monumental third season episode, Buffy is hoping for an uneventful Christmas break. Unfortunately, Angel is being haunted by horrible nightmares and visions of former victims. One nightmare is a flashback to Dublin, 1838 at Christmas but other visions are pushing him to hurt his former lover, Buffy.

Buffy begins to understand his emotional struggle when she’s drawn into his nightmares and sees that Angel’s former victims are drawing him towards evil. Trying to help, Buffy seeks the Bringers, the beings that may be behind Angel’s conflict. She finds their location in Sunnydale by the tell-tale sign that no tree thrives in the Christmas tree lot above their underground dwelling.

In the meantime, Buffy’s mother Joyce encourages her daughter to invite Faith, who lives alone, to join them for Christmas Eve despite the awkwardness.

Xander camps out in a sleeping bag on his lawn in order to avoid his family’s drunken fights on Christmas Eve. Though Willow is Jewish, she spends her Christmas Eve with her boyfriend Oz trying to convince him to trust her again after a past indiscretion.

The emotional heart of this 1998 episode is watching Angel being pushed by the visions to end his pain and guilt by committing vampire suicide in the early morning dawn of sunlight on Christmas morning. We watch as the complex character Angel struggles with the all too familiar weaknesses of his humanity--not the monstrous evil that comes with being a demon.

Other Christmas stories play off of the much anticipated sunrise on Christmas morning--daybreak is usually the time young children rush down from their bedrooms to discover what Santa Claus has left them under the Christmas tree. However in this Christmas story, viewers may be surprised by their own depth of emotion in wishing that Angel’s self-destruction on Christmas morning never comes. When the story resolution finally comes, it’s satisfying and in keeping with the holiday spirit. Feeling sympathetic to hunky vampires is a fairly recent experience for most of us that has since become much more common place in films and television. This Christmas episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the first time I remember feeling it as strongly as I ever would. Re-watching this third season episode is nostalgia at its magical Christmasy best.

My Review:

With any anthology—and this one was a great one on the whole because I liked each story for different reasons—you still have one tale that just sweeps you away more than the others. For me, it was the first story, Crime Wave in a Corset by Stacy Gail. I loved it right from the beginning, the period language, a subtle blending with the fashion, and industrious inventions gave the story a nice historic atmosphere. What I enjoyed most about the story though was the pitting of a large alpha male against a tiny firecracker of a woman, a female thief at that, who is smart and crafty due to a horrid past.

Story two, This Winter Heart by PG Forte, was again very emotional, a tale of acceptance of one another despite differences. While historic, it carried a timeless message of seeing everyone as real and capable beings, worthy of love. In the third story, Wanted: One Scoundrel by Jenny Schwartz, there was a lot more punk than steam. Still, it was a great story, full of the politics of the time, which I think would be hard to write. The author certainly did her homework. As well as the social intrigue though, along with a few touches of blackmail, there was a nice heavy dose of romantic tension.

Last, but certainly not least, was Far From Broken by JK Coi. In this story the steam part was so creative, just so brilliant in its inventions. Again, this theme of acceptance was there, but like the second story, a prominent part of the storyline. Overall though, this anthology did a fantastic job of creating solid steam punk tales, each with very different plotline and settings, while still letting you feel the season of Christmas. What really impressed me was that each story carried the theme of the holiday season, goodwill toward men. And, isn’t that what we all love about a holiday story that they remind us of the good possible in each of us?

My Review:

It is no secret what a fan I am of Jennifer Labelle’s work. In fact, in my mind I call her the Mistress of Emotions, as I know each time I begin reading on of her stories that I am in for an emotional ride. And, having started reading with her novel “Meant to Be” and moving into her Leather and Pleasure series, I have to say that with each books things just get spicier too. With “Spice It Up” Ms. Labelle created a unique set up and gave it the sexiest resolution yet. And it came with all the emotional twists and turns and bumps in the road that I expect from this author. There was a few moments that I went from feeling sorry for Nathan to thinking him a jerk and back again, and I appreciate the reality of emotions that this author brings to her works. They capture me, take me on a new roller coaster each time.

Recommend this story? It goes without saying! I’m always up for a new Labelle tale :)

Review and Giveaway of “Let Me In” (Book Four in the Erotic Me Series) By Lauren Hawkeye

My Review:

Again, in this story, as with the series, there are real people, a woman, set against a man or in this case men and another woman, they see as sexually attractive, brought together by this wedding. Each story in this series has been sexier, each one hotter than the next. The situations are even more daring each time, adding new people, from male and female to ménage to swinging. This series builds nicely with hot and sexy stories. I personally find series difficult to write, and as I feel I am giving the same compliments each time, maybe hard to review, LOL, but this one has kept my interest, with the basic setting the same but with different characters and situations. Each is definitely well written and a short pleasure to read.

As for this story and the swinging, the book itself was a tease, but I liked the very real resolution for the couple.

Kiki: What is your favorite genre to read in, and what is it about that genre that attracts you to it? If you like a specific mix of genres, please state that particular combination.

Tracey: I enjoy reading medical drama/mystery. I like books with characters who are emergency services personnel or military. When reading romance, I prefer a more sophisticated or mature hero/heroine. I guess it is no surprise I write what I do!

Kiki: What is your favorite author to read in that genre, and why? Also, please tell me a little about the best book by that author you have read.

Tracey: This is a tough one; I tend to read quite widely because I’m ‘researching’ or because I’m curious about other authors. CJ Lyons is a favorite (medical drama). Nicolas Sparks is a favorite because of the more mature characters.

Kiki: Do you have a Favorite Book of All Time? Of course, please tell us what about that book makes it your favorite.

Tracey: I do not have “a” favorite book. There are just too many, and I like different aspects of each.

Kiki: What are your reading habits like? For example, how many books do you read on average in a week, what format do you prefer to read in, what time of day do you read, and what setting is ideal for you to get lost in that book?

Tracey: With a family business to run and two young children with activities, I don’t read as much as I’d like. Often I find I’m forced to choose between reading and writing. I probably average 3-4 books/month, but there are some months I don’t get any reading done.

I recently got a Kindle and surprised myself by how much I love it. But there are still times I like to feel the weight of a good book in my hands. Any setting is ideal for a good book (at kids’ swim lessons, at the park, while waiting for a meeting…)!

Kiki: If pressed, could you choose a favorite from the books you have written? Why is it your favorite?

Tracey: I think I will always feel a special fondness for my first book, Last Chance Rescue, simply because it was the first (and it’s a good book, and Indie Award Finalist!). The day I held the first copy in my hands was an awe-filled day (“I can’t believe it, I’m an author!”).

True Surrender will hold a special place because it was the catalyst to my discovery of how much I enjoy fusing writing, music and visual imagery (see below for information about the companion music video).

But I think whatever book I’m deeply involved in at the moment will be my favorite (and that’s as it should be, I think).

Kiki: How do you become inspired to write?

Tracey: For me, it starts with one scene—often from a dream. Ideally, I have the luxury of some ‘daydreaming’ time to allow the character(s) to develop until I have the makings of a story or novel in my head.

My writing is heavily influenced by the time I spent in the military and by the medical training I received there. When I became a helicopter pilot, it opened new relationships with some amazing people—and Last Chance really came together after I did some ride-alongs with medevac and search-and-rescue.

My ‘writing time’ is from 9-11pm a couple times a week (after my kids are in bed) and a stolen hour at a café or coffee shop when I can swing it. I do my best work when it’s quiet and I have NO interruptions, but sometimes a change of scenery can help my level of inspiration.

Kiki: What part of the story do you think is your strength to write?

Tracey: The scenes that tend to ‘flow’ are usually those with medical drama or trauma. I’ve been told I have a ‘signature’ scene in each book, which is a scene that contains sensual elements or the building of sensual tension in a medical or injury situation where you’d least expect it. In True Surrender it happens when Holly is helping Aaron with his physical therapy on a treadmill.

Kiki: Please share with ABA readers something I did not think to ask you about.

Tracey: I’d like to mention that True Surrender has a companion music video!

"The Rose (Surrender Version)” is my own arrangement of Bette Midler's classic, but with a more upbeat rhythm and a bluesy feel. It contains scenes from True Surrender enacted by actors.

When the idea of a music video first occurred to me (after recording the song earlier this year), I wondered: how would my passion for singing, writing and the power of the visual come together?

I loved the whole process – how the different aspects dovetailed and intertwined; how dormant creativity was sparked (in large part by being around other creative people). I loved the collaborative nature of this project. And I’m in awe of how the right people came into my life and into the project.

His bed was empty.

Impossible, she thought.

And then she saw him: motionless on the floor, a dark stain spreading underneath his body. A stain that she recognized instantly.

Blood.

Oh my God, the terrorists found him!

This first irrational thought was immediately followed by a more trained response. She assessed the situation in the few moments it took her to cross the room. She hit the button on the intercom system, identified herself and requested help.

She dropped to her knees next to Aaron. She spoke as she ran her hands across the back of his neck. “Aaron! Can you hear me?” As soon as she was certain he had no neck or spinal injury, she shook him gently. “Aaron, it’s Holly. Talk to me, Aaron.”

His arms snapped up, flailing for a moment before his good hand clamped onto her wrist—hard. His eyes were wide open, and in them she saw terror…confusion… pain…

They engaged in a macabre tug-of war as Holly stated repeatedly, “Aaron, it’s me—Holly. You’re okay. Take it easy.”

I look forward to Black Friday every year. I don’t get up extremely early, nor do I fight crowds to get an gift at the best price. But I do spend the day shopping, kicking off the holiday shopping season, with my mom. We meet for breakfast and go over Christmas lists from the kids. We always happen upon a few great deals and just enjoy our day, although it is always a real shop till you drop day :)

So, for my giveaway this year, I decided I would shop for my followers while I’m out. So, I can’t say exactly what my giveaway will be. Kiki: What is your favorite genre to read in, and what is it about that genre that attracts you to it? If you like a specific mix of genres, please state that particular combination.

Gabrielle: I love historical and paranormal anything, especially romance. Historical fiction is really great to lose a few hours in too. I think what attracts me to historical books is the fact I’ve loved history since I was a small child. No wonder, I guess, that I ended up studying it in college. And paranormal? Well, the fantastical is always so great to imagine.

Kiki: What is your favorite author to read in that genre, and why? Also, please tell me a little about the best book by that author you have read.

Gabrielle: For historical romance, I adore Charlotte Featherstone. She has such a divine way of phrasing things, and her stories are always so lush and sensual. Her book Lust is just delicious. The idea to take the seven deadly sins and construct an erotic romance series around them as personified by males of the Dark Fae is terrific. I wish I had thought of it! For paranormal romance, I love Marie Treanor. She has a wonderful writing style that’s smart and engaging. I loved the first book in her Awakened by Blood Series, Blood on Silk.

Kiki: Do you have a Favorite Book of All Time? Of course, please tell us what about that book makes it your favorite.

Gabrielle: My favorite book of all time? I don’t think I do have one favorite. I have some that rank equally as books I would turn to, however. I love Catcher In The Rye. I’m a huge fan of Anton Chekov’s writing, especially his short story, The Kiss. What a powerful story based on one short moment in time.

Kiki: What is the best book you read last month, and would you recommend it to a friend?

Gabrielle: I read Blood Eternal last month, and I would definitely recommend it. Marie Treanor’s writing is just wonderful.

Kiki: What are your reading habits like? For example, how many books do you read on average in a week, what format do you prefer to read in, what time of day do you read, and what setting is ideal for you to get lost in that book?

Gabrielle: When I’m not in the middle of writing a book, I’ll read a book or so a week. I used to read much faster, but between work and writing, I’m taking my time more these days. I’m still a fan of the paperback, but I own a Kindle, so I read on that too. I’m definitely a night reader. I like to curl up in bed with a book or the Kindle and read that way.

Kiki: If pressed, could you choose a favorite from the books you have written? Why is it your favorite?

Gabrielle: I think I’d have to say Destiny Redeemed is my favorite. I fell in love with the character of Amon Kalins the moment he appeared on the page in Stolen Destiny, and then he rattled around in my head until I gave him his own story in Destiny Redeemed. As much as I love Stolen Destiny, I really enjoyed giving Amon a happily ever after.

Kiki: How do you become inspired to write?

Gabrielle: All sorts of things can inspire me. Sometimes it’s a song I hear or a movie I’m watching. Other times it’s an image I see in passing that strikes something in me. As for what motivates me to write each day, I’m just one of those people who focuses on something and then it becomes an obsession. That’s what writing is for me.

Kiki: What part of the story do you think is your strength to write?

Gabrielle: I think my greatest strength lies in dialogue. I’ve been told by a number of readers that the dialogue in my stories flows well and really hits them.

Kiki: Please share with ABA readers something I did not think to ask you about.

Gabrielle: I’m a committed plotter. It’s the only way I can write a story. Long after my panster fellow authors are into their work, I’m still outlining and plotting. Sometimes it takes weeks, but once I finish, the writing nearly tumbles out of me.

“Your house is very nice.” His words were predictable, but he hoped to avoid another emotional outburst from her that would be sure to hurt.

Thea turned her body toward him and smiled. “Amon, why are you here, if it’s not to kidnap me again?”

Her refusal to let him set the pace made him smile. He was going to have to tell her about Sevine.

“I missed you. I wish you hadn’t left.”

“Amon, I can’t just stay at your house for the rest of my life. I have a job...”

Thea caught herself and corrected what she’d said. “Well, I had a job before you sent that man to kidnap me and you held me captive.”

Amon felt her sadness wash over him, and he felt truly sorry for what had happened. “I never intended for that to happen. I will compensate you well to make up for everything. I promise.”

While he spoke, he looked directly into her eyes and wished they were back at his house together. Or better yet, at his home in

“You can’t just do things that hurt others and then simply throw money at the problem. I loved my job, and now I’ve lost it.”

Thea’s sadness stabbed at him, and he closed his eyes to ward off the pain. Unlike before, this was more an ache than searing pain.

“Are you okay, Amon?” he heard her say and he opened his eyes.

Wincing, he nodded, but concerned, she placed her hands on his and held them. “Where is the pain located?” she asked when she couldn’t figure out how to heal him.

“You can’t heal this, Thea. This is the pain I explained to you before.”

Gently squeezing his hands, she said quietly, “I can heal your pain. Please tell me where it’s coming from.”

There would be no explaining this away, so he decided to tell her the truth.

“Thea, you can’t heal it because you cause it. Or more specifically, your unhappiness causes it. My destined one cursed me to feel unrelenting pain each time I make you unhappy.”

“Why? I thought you said you hadn’t even seen her in lifetimes.”

“I haven’t.”

“Then why curse you with something from me?”

Amon sighed and knew he couldn’t avoid telling her the most important part of Sevine’s curse.

“She didn’t. The curse is more general than that. It affects me with anyone I love.”

Lifetimes of confidence seemed to evaporate in seconds as he watched Thea’s face darken.

“Love me? Is that what you think coming to my house to take me away is? Love?”

“You don’t understand. I found out...”

Thea cut him off in mid-sentence and put her hand up. “I understand perfectly. You want me back at your house to heal you, and you think the way to soften me up into accepting being kidnapped a second time is to tell me you love me. You must think I’m pretty pathetic if you believe that will work.”

Pain once again raged through his body and Amon silently reached out to Gethen to call for help. Moments later, he and Markku entered through the front door and Thea leaped from her seat on the couch.

“Don’t either of you have any manners either? Get out of my house now!”

Both men stood still waiting for instructions from Amon and appeared to almost look right through her. With each word, Amon felt weaker, and he leaned back against the couch, twisted in pain.

In a strangled voice, he whispered, “Thea, please listen. They’re here to help me. Your emotions are killing me.”

Turning to see his face drained of all color, she asked, “You’re serious, aren’t you?”

About the Author:

An avid reader of all types of books, I read my first romance even before I was a teenager. I must have been a very precocious young lady! I still remember the book, if not the title. It was about a Southern man during the years before the Civil War and his illicit affair with one of the slaves of a woman he "frequented". I remember vividly reading the word "manhood" often in the book, and the slave's name was Sukie. Isn't it amazing what the mind can remember?

Fast forward a couple dozen years and I'm a college history instructor. I still love history as much as that romantic young woman did, so I teach it to college students, and the romantic streak has never gone away. Now I get to do things that have to do with my other favorite love: romance novels.

The idea for my first book came to me in a dream. I know that seems almost cliched, but it did. I woke up one morning after having an extremely vivid dream and began to jot things down that I was able to remember. Days later, I had the first pages written and the ideas that I had dreamed about had become the characters in my first book. Those characters are the basis for the first series I've written, The Destined Ones Series, about a people called Aeveren who have lived side by side with humans since almost the beginning of recorded time. The first book in that series, Stolen Destiny, was published in June.

I'm still working on The Destined Ones books, and I look forward to what my imagination has waiting for me next. The second book about Aeveren, Destiny Redeemed, is scheduled to be released on October 13. I've finished the Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy, three erotic novellas set in Victorian England. The first one, Vampire Dreams, is a paranormal erotic romance. The second novella, another erotic romance but an historical, Love's Master, involves some light BDSM. The third novella, Masquerade, is a straight historical, no kink or paranormal. After that, a paranormal romance set in the great city of New Orleans is up in December--Blood Avenged. Anyone who read Vampire Dreams will remember Vasilije, Brandon's sire. Blood Avenged is his story.

After that? Well, I'm in the planning stages of another trilogy, this time maybe novel length, that will come out in 2012. But one thing's for sure: no matter what the story is, it will involve gorgeous, Alpha male heroes; strong heroines; and steamy romance!

My Review:

Ms. Salidas, true to form, wastes no time in getting to the surprises in this third book in her Immortalis series. She is definitely writes I-never-saw-that-coming kind of books. There is never a lack of twists and turns, with each battle and each challenge. I have been awed by the caliber of writing in designing such storylines as she has in this series.

I thought it was interesting to watch both Lysander and Alyssa evolve through the stories in this series, individually and as mates. All in the group changed toward Alyssa in some way. The author developed many vivid and unique characters to challenge and to complement the two main ones.

In this third book, I thought ms. Salidas created the most exotic of all of the enemies the vampire clan has had to fight. In keeping with that, there was more of a mystical puzzle to figure out rather than just come up with a plan to trick and kick the enemies ass. I really liked this change. With book one basically all about vampires, and book two about vampires and one human, this book had several other beings. It shows a great progression especially considering in some way she connects all the book to one core enemy. And, the addition of spirits, werewolves and witches excited me to no end.

Now the end, hmmm…there better be another book coming soon is all I can say! LOL

Katie Salidas is a very creative and very strong author. I recommend each book in this series.

My Review:

You know from my review of Book 1 in this series that I love the vampire world that Ms. Salidas has created. So let me tell you right off that it only got better in book two. First, there is the little details, like using words like “daymares”. Second, for a second in a series, the author pulled off what I see as a writer, as a tough element to writing a series. She was able to catch up a new reader, giving them the information needed to understand Book 2 if they had not read Book 1, while making that info a brief reminder rather than a boring retelling for those who were already following the series.

In the beginning of Book 2, Alyssa is still struggling with her new life as a vampire in some ways, but then Ms. Salidas really amps everything up here. And, I do mean everything! Having loved the first story in this series already, this second story was even better. Don’t you just love when that happens!?! Everything was more intense, from the character’s struggles, to the dangers they face to the love story. This was a same good guys and same bad guys book with all new situations and complications and suspense - and I was one happy reader. I loved this line “The enemy of my enemy is my friend…right?” That kind of sums up the constant twists and turns and surprises that the author keeps throwing at you. Plus, the mythology keeps evolving!

I simply cannot wait for the third in this series :)

As if having her humanity stripped away was not enough to make life interesting, Alyssa finds out her “turning”, did not go unnoticed by the rest of undead society. Old enemies; an ancient sect of vampire hunters, known as the Acta Sanctorum, as well as a powerful Vampire mistress, each set plans in motion to destroy both Alyssa and Lysander.

Only by accepting her newfound immortality, seizing the night, will Alyssa hope to survive. She and Lysander must fight together against two sets of enemies bent on destroying them both.

My Review:

I like the more gritty vampire tales like this one. There is a price, an internal conflict among other life changes, to have to live with. Ms. Salidas created this aspect of the vampire world very well. The heroine had no easy go of it. She really had to struggle to adapt to her new life and let go of the old one.

The lore was well thought out, and I appreciated the old Catholic connection (quite inventive). Ms. Salidas creates a great mix of vampire mythology, a wonderful balance between the conventional lore and her own, making it very easy to follow and captivating as well.

What I wanted more of was the hero. He has such a dark, deep presence in the novel, an alpha who makes the heroine tremble from his power and tenderness. I fell in love with Lysander instantly, and his back story was amazing. I want to read that story. The series needs a prequel of Lysander's life before Alyssa - hint, hint ;)

My Review of “Sapphire” by Jeffe Kennedy

This may seem like a weird review, but let me say that it is the highest compliment. Because this is such a great book, I’m writing a crappy review (as in my writing of it, not in I didn’t like the book) – okay, let me explain… LOL

I read a lot of books, and lately have been in kind of a slump, not really caring for most of them and thus not even finishing reading them less reviewing them. And, as I read to review generally, I stop when a “review thought” hits me and take notes on my ereader. It is from these notes that I later write up my reviews.

HOWEVER, opening Sapphire up and reading it, I became so absorbed in the story, so much so, that when it ended, and yes I read it in one sitting, I realized that I had not made one review note. Not one review thought had come to my mind, that is how engrossed in the story I was. I sat there thinking, okay, what will I say about this story now? Seriously, I was thinking, it is all good and I have nothing wonderfully descriptive to say. No review will do it justice!

Okay, I will give it a go… let me think… the characters had amazing depth, especially M./Taylor. Her emotional journey at the hands of a business associate nonetheless, was extreme and extraordinary. Even without all of the back story given, or at least I wanted to know more of it, it was real, devastating at times, and just, wow! What a talented writer Ms. Kennedy is. Even her support characters were wonderful additions to give the reader more information about Taylor and Adam. The settings, especially Adam’s library were wonderful sexual playrooms, even if they were eating out or on a ship, every moment between them was steamy. Really, I could go on, but all I can say is wow! What story! What a writer! This is a fantastic book!!! I was taken away by it! When is the next book coming out?

Hot Angels and Cool Demons Blog Tour - A Questionable Hero

Usually when I write, I start with a story line. My novella, A Questionable Hero, was different. For this story I knew only that I was itching to write an angel and demon story. The idea of it just sent my imagination reeling with a demon hero as the epitome of the bad boy. So, I began asking myself a bunch of questions. When your hero and heroine are polar opposites of each other, the inquiry can be quite interesting.

The first thing that came to me though was this battle scene with multitudes of angels and demons fighting each other. This seemed obvious, so I wanted more. It was then that it struck me how I wanted my hero and heroine to meet. I wanted my demon to save my angel's life. I imagined her shock, her horror, and her lust.

I enjoyed coming up with the answer to the next obvious question - what would an angel warrior do if the demon that was supposed to kill her saved her instead (and here came my next twist) and got hurt in the process? Would the angel then help the demon? As you can see, my creative process involves asking myself a lot of questions.

So now, I had my questionable hero, hence my title was born :) Of course, my angel would feel some moral obligation to save her hero, but then I imagined her anxiety when needing to unclothe the demon to clean the wound on the man's hip. Add to that the fact that the demon was in the form of a man, one she found quite attractive. Things were heating up at this point!

Yet, even with those complications established, I keep asking myself, "What would make this even more of a problematic situation?" I didn't have any idea how the romance would go or how I even wanted the story to end at that point, but once I started writing it the characters took care of that for me. It was one of those stories that takes on a life of its own, the characters so real and vibrant to me, that it was written in a very short amount of time.

I joked for days that I was working really hard, I mean I was trying to figure out how to get a demon into Heaven after all in many ways! I enjoyed playing with the demon's moral dilemmas. What a concept, but he was a Hafling, his whole life his whole being a war of good versus evil within himself.

Also, I had the angel attracted to the bad boy, one who may or may not have a redeemable side. There was just so much going on around them that they couldn't control and so much inside them that they had to figure out - so many elements to untangle - but how utterly romantic to write. I can't say more about the story without giving too much away, other than that I have the best job ever!

A divine proclivity to perceive imminent danger made Shaebiel turn in time to glimpse the sterling glint of a demon's sword only inches away from slashing into her flesh. As her body tensed for the pain, a sharp metallic clash rang in her ears succeeded by the shrill grate of metal against metal. Two long daggers crossed beside her, and moments later a human form was reduced to smoky ash on the blacktop. Her gaze traveled the length of the sword that had saved her. To her utter shock and dismay, she discovered it was held by a demon-a devilish being with magnetic silver eyes.

Those eyes, lighter than the inky black of most of his kind, bored into hers, searched hers. As an angel warrior gifted with empathic abilities she could feel lust rising over the flood of his more erratic feelings of fear, bewilderment, and shame. It could have been a minute or an hour they had stood there, because time seemed to stand still, wrapped in the embrace of this man's stare. Her sword of light remained down beside her instead of being jabbed into the cavity of his chest to kill him. At the same time, he slowly sheathed his weapon rather than coming for her. They were opposing combatants of the war in a shocked stalemate, entranced by each other, out of sync with the natural order of events.

Before she could figure out a plan of action, a sword of light wielded by another angel warrior seared through the demon's hip. His cry cut through the background noise of the fighting, causing her rapid breathing to pause. He grabbed at the singed flesh, and his sooty hair fell over his face. Another angel, seeing the demon who had saved her as an obvious threat given his proximity, had come to her rescue as well. Shaebiel stood there frozen as if she had never been trained for such a battle.

The attacking angel warrior to her right was still in a duel with his own demon. With one light sword he had stopped a metal dagger in mid-air. Metal forged with evil intent could not cut through the light produced by heavenly beings. Seconds later, his other sword stabbed again at the demon before her, searing his thigh. His cry was cut off, and he heaved in a breath as if he had been punched in the stomach. Then her demon-savior fell between two trash cans adorning the asphalt land. She had to hand it to the other angel for trying to fight two demons at once. The angel warrior's aim may not have been exact, but his mission had been successful. He had unknowingly saved her from her questionable hero. The warring emotions of this evil incarnation now at her feet struck her with the impact of a bludgeon.

Could that be something similar to love among his desperate hate? Surely, I am too overwhelmed by the many around me to clearly decipher his mental state. I thought such an emotion was impossible for an immortal without a true heart, a spawn of the underworld. Is that really more than carnal lust wishing to desecrate me, but a desire to be near me? Could that explain his rash actions? And if so, what does he want from me?

It was too much to take in as the angels and demons continued to clash. Even through the din of war cries and the emotions which prevailed along with them, his feelings surged over her and through her, scorching deep into her body, conjuring her desire to heal him. Something familiar rang true about him, too. She had crossed paths with his aura before, but she could not find him in any memory as she searched her mind.

Working at an urban university in New York she had encountered a lot of people and a lot of demons masquerading as mortals. And yet, his face was not one she thought she could forget. Despite the forced peace of his semi-conscious state, his face looked strained, full of angst along its angular planes. It matched his mental state in her field of awareness.

As if by grace, her thoughts were momentarily distracted by the receding sounds around her. The black smoke, all that was left of the extinguished demons, lay over the ground, like a plague spreading over the earth, analogous to the demons themselves. Meanwhile the white lights of the murdered angel warriors lit the sky, resembling shooting stars moving in the wrong direction.

A warm hand grasped her jeans at the ankle redirecting her errant attentions once again. She saw one quick spark of the silver anomaly that was the demon's eyes just before his lids closed over them, his haunted face made more poignant by the frame of rusting, dented garbage cans. Her breath caught as she registered his thought, a plea for her to care for him.

With the battle over, only the two of them remained. A human walked the deserted city streets, the footfalls sounding the same as an alarm which was probably the reason for the abrupt end to the fighting. She knew she had to go as well. Angel warrior in a human body or not, the inner city streets were no place for her to be alone at three o'clock in the morning, not for fear of her safety, but because she risked being exposed if she was called upon to protect herself. She had to remain sensible, streetwise not stupid, and above all, fit in.

Seeing his chest rise and fall erratically along with the thick black blood oozing from his wounds, she could not just leave him for the police to find nor could she bring herself to kill him. He had for some inexplicable reason saved her from a demon, the one meant to kill her on this night.

She knew the implications of interfering with the order of things all too well, and found herself waiting for some wrath to befall them both for deviating from long established ways.
